Checked In

Due to his always bad sinuses, Jesse is scheduled for another sinus surgery tomorrow to get all cleaned out.   He has been having bad headaches for weeks now so he was pretty sure it would be time for another surgery.  He went for a CT scan on Tuesday so that his ENT, Dr. Seper, could be sure of how bad his sinuses were.  Since he has had this surgery so many times before, he could tell by himself that the scans looked bad enough to need surgery.  He had a follow up appointment with Dr. Seper on Thursday, and she confirmed what he already knew and scheduled his surgery.

Jesse got lucky that she happened to have a cancellation on Monday morning, and is very much looking forward to having some relief.  Dr. Seper wanted him checked in the hospital this afternoon to expedite the extra CT scan and other prep she needed to get him in on such short notice.

Hospital

So now we’re here, enjoying the wonderful comforts of his hospital room.  Luckily, he got taken for the CT scan almost right away.  And now we are just freaking out the nurses with all of his meds he brought from home.  Those of you who are our CF friends know that you always need to bring your meds with you.  And even though the doctor stood in our room and explained to the nurse that he was allowed to take any of his home meds that he wanted, she is still a little confused.  She explained that before he could take them they would have to be taken down to the pharmacy for inspection.  Well that’s fine, but she told us that over an hour ago so he has already had to take enzymes with the food they brought, and started his own IV because it was time for the dose and they haven’t come back to check the meds yet.  Oh well, I know the nurses are doing the best they can with such an unusual patient.

Jesse is scheduled for surgery at 11 am tomorrow morning and it should take about two hours.  Please pray that everything goes smoothly, and that he will be home resting and recovering tomorrow night.

“Unusual patient” is putting it pretty mildly. ;-) Thanks for taking such good care of Jesse. We will continue praying for both of you.

BTW, do you have vacation time for this, or is John just letting you take some days off to tend to your man?

At least I know it isn’t just us. We bring all our meds too and when we get a new nurse they FREAK out. I always keep Kaleb on schedule and so I just do things on my own including RT stuff and that really throws them for a loop! Kaleb is having his 5th sinus surgery Nov 30. Praying for Jesse (and you!)

I’m taking unpaid days off. I just let Cam know that Jesse was having surgery… and he said okay, family comes first. It was nice to know it wasn’t an issue. Although I think I’m more tired today than if I had gone to work!

  • Kristin

Thanks for the prayers. Jesse was just telling me the other day about Kaleb’s surgery coming up soon.

Hi Kristin, Definitely can relate to this. Paul takes charge of his stuff, too, when he goes in. Many times they don’t come in on time to change the IV and stuff. BTW, does Jesse get double portions, and if so, does he share with you? We do that sometimes, ‘cuz if he can’t eat it it just goes to waste. You’ve got to make the best of those difficult hospital stays. Sending prayers and healing thoughts to you all.♥♥ Love, Ronda

Love hugs and prayers for you both. We’ll be anxiously awaiting the good news that the surgery is over and everything went well.

This hospital isn’t a CF center. They’re clueless about such things and never gave me the option, so she went to the deli before leaving and I scarfed down a sandwich w/ my favorite: jalepeños. Why am I up? My headache returned for another fight. Surgery can’t come soon enough.

Anxiously? You mean eagerly? I’ll post as soon as I get my hands back on my iPhone in recovery.

They proved my case for me by taking an hour to bring me my first Vicodin and me having already started my IV on my own before they came to ask about it. Actually, I was 5 minutes from being done and then took 10 minutes after to try to draw blood from my port and had said to not use heparin before they came. I rest my case. At least dinner came at 4:54.

Hey Jesse, My husband, Paul, read this and wondered if you knew that you could have your doctor write up an order for a 4,000 calorie a day diet and they will inundate you with food. May as well give it a shot if you’re going to be there a few days. : ) Ronda

Hi Kristin! I know Jesse from Twitter, and he’s done some work on my blog. I had no idea, Jesse had CF, and honestly don’t know much about it. But I’m praying for recovery and for God to give you peace and strength!
