What’s In Your Purse?

My purseKatie, from Marriage Confessions, likes to ask her readers what they have in their purse right now.  She showed us her purse contents today, so I figured I would do the same.

This is the new purse I’ve been using lately.  I wanted something that was a neutral color so that I didn’t need to change it to match my outfits for the day.  This one was only $20 from Ross.  I wasn’t too sure if white would get too dirty too fast, but it’s kinda off white so it’s been good so far.  I like it because it’s big and I don’t have to fit puzzle pieces together to get all my stuff in.  It seems like my purses just keep getting bigger and bigger.  Since when did I need so much stuff just to leave the house?!

It’s not too full now, as extra stuff has not yet had time to accumulate.  Here’s what’s inside…
Purse contents

  • We have the all-important wallet.
  • A stack of unnecessary cards I sorted through at work today because my wallet would no longer close.
  • Gum and extra gum because there are only two pieces left in the open pack.
  • Jesse’s inhaler which I might need to use at work on days when the office is extra dusty or extra paint fumy.
  • My sunglasses case which is not often used because they are usually on my head if I’m not wearing them.
  • My glasses that I always need to wear at work because I’m on the computer all day.
  • Chap stick!  Never go anywhere without chap stick.
  • Checkbooks for accounts at two different banks, though we hardly ever write checks.
  • Three pens… don’t know why I need three.  A back up for my backup, I guess.
  • My phone (the dead one).
  • And my camera, to encourage me to take more pictures of whatever we are doing.

Purse medicinesThen, in the zipper compartment, I keep an assortment of various medicines for however I feel during the day.

So, what’s in your purse?

When It Rains, It Pours

Warning: I’m going to be whining… skip this post if you’re not in the mood for whining. ;-)

We’ve been more than a little discouraged about our finances lately. (Who isn’t, right?) It’s not that we are really that bad off, just not as smooth as we were at this time last year. Despite our best planning, none of our decisions are going as planned. Everything seems to break before we have the money to replace it, everything is due earlier than we thought, prices went up… again. No matter how much we try to cut back, there just doesn’t seem to be enough. I know that there are many people that have it a lot tougher than I do, but why can’t it just be easier?

I’m sure you can relate. All of our insurances took a big increase this year. It was fine for a while, we had the cushion in our budget. But then one thing after another, after another, and the cushion was getting smaller and smaller.

Here’s what happening now:

Last week when I went to the doctor, she gave me three sample allergy medicines to start taking all at once to get to feeling better.  I felt great when I was taking all three.  She then wanted me to take away one at a time to see which one was working best.  When I stopped one of them, all of the symptoms came back.  I was pretty much useless yesterday because I had no more samples left of the one that was working.  So I called to get a prescription for that one.  Easy enough… or not so much.  Turns out that my insurance doesn’t cover the wonderful medication.  There is only ONE prescription allergy medicine they will cover.

So, then I’m on the phone back and forth with my doctor trying to get a prescription for my ONE choice before the doctor’s office is closed for the night… and my cell phone dies!  My phone has been really stupid lately with keeping its charge, but today the battery lasted no more than 20 minutes of my drive home.  We are planning on replacing our phones soon, but it’s getting hard to be patient when the phone is not functioning anymore.

On top of that, I have a test on Friday to see why I have been having such bad stomach pains.  I couldn’t get a real answer as to how much that would cost, but it might be a lot after how much is was just to see my primary care doctor on my lovely insurance plan.  The doctor said my spleen felt enlarged, or maybe I just have an ulcer from too much stress!

We just need to remind ourselves of Philippians 4:19 – And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
